Bad Girl, Good Business

House of Wax and Celluloid

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I’m working out of WeWork Hollywood this week.

Since I was a little girl, I have been a tad obsessed with old Hollywood and the film business in general. It makes sense. I love make-believe and dress-up.

My passion and profession have always involved telling stories in a compelling way…turning realities into believable fictions (i.e., marketing)…and glamming  people and things up, while still keeping their souls intact  (i.e., branding).

I walked past lots of people in costume this morning (at 9am). Unlike New York costumes of suits and ties, these were Elmos, Spidermen, whores and gangsters, and other variations on stars and superheroes.  I stepped on the stars along Hollywood Boulevard, dodging tourists who were taking selfies of themselves atop their favorite celebrity name. Instead of the NY Public Library, I walked past Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

As much as I love the unreal and surreal, we all need to take off the costume at the end of the day. So, after my whimsical walk, full of bizarre fantasies, I got to work. The people around me may be writing fiction or fact…they may be starting new businesses or brands. In the words of the Kinks, “Everybody’s in Show-Biz.”

Lights…camera…action!  Hooray for Hollywood!

BGGB_ShakingHandsDid you know that the horror movie “House of Wax” was about a business partnership gone awry?!
