The 100 Years Club Installment #151: Let’s Bury October 2025
 Reading Time: 3 minutes
Reading Time: 3 minutesI have very mixed memories of “Halloween Month.”
- I broke my ankle on Halloween 2021, and my mother died the next day. On the bright side, her memory and bad-assery live on, and I wrote about the challenges of being disabled for 55 days. I picked up lots of new subscribers (who obviously loved hearing about my scooter-riding and resilience!)
- Checking one of the essential NYC boxes, I experienced the Halloween parade in Manhattan. It’s a wild time, and I recommend it to all holiday fans.
- I have always loved dressing up. I found this pic in my archives. TV spy shows were very hot that year. I was Honey West. My older brother was a Russian spy. Note the hat. And my little brother was some type of well-dressed pirate. In college, I paired a scary witch mask with a mini skirt and furry coat. I enjoyed turning around and freaking out boys who were admiring my butt and fishnets, teen tease that I was! (I don’t have pix. Smart phones hadn’t yet been invented, thankfully!) I was Honey West. So, fast forward to October 2025.
Probably because of all the real-life horrors in the world, we’re having a very escapist year. See some of the facts below about Halloween spending and trends.
Adults and children alike seem to love this time of year because we get to transform ourselves into new characters (not unlike what we do on social media). And I also like it because I get to write about fear and how to overcome it. For example:
- Four podcasts about fear, anxiety, scary movies, and other things that might give you the creeps.
- A series of posts here and on The Silver Hair Playbook. I talked about the “monsters” in our lives and how to avoid them.
- Some fun Instagram content on my personal brand page. (I still love costumes! Check out this “blast from the past” article, with even more pix of my Halloween fits over the years.)
But enough about ME.
Before I switch over to my content about Gratitude tomorrow, here are some fun business facts about Halloween 2025.
And remember to “bury” all those things that no longer serve you and upset your health and well-being!

| | Holiday spending reached an all-time high of $13B, primarily driven by higher prices. Very scary! |
| | Group and duo costumes abound. My brother and I were clearly on-trend, even back in the 1960s. |
| | As many of you may know by now, I found this mask highly offensive. When I posted about it, someone trolled me. Welcome to 2025! At least I have a new prop to use in my speaking gigs about ageism! |
| | What’s Halloween without candy? Here are the most popular treats in 2025. |
