The 100 Years Club Installment #141: HOT STUFF #14 End of Summer Blues?

These last days of August can be “slumpy” for some people.
In fact, I thought about escaping AZ for a last-minute vacation.
I kinda missed out on some of the summer of 2025 because I moved to a new apartment, and I left some of my calendar free in case I got picked for the Golden Bachelor (seriously).
But I’ve always been a “lemonade from lemons” chick, and I am making the best of these days. I spent a small fortune on the move, and I have three trips planned for September, so staying put in 100+ temps is just what I have to deal with this year.
Feeling a little depressed that the summer is almost over? It’s a real thing. Subscribe to my podcast and you’ll hear from a therapist about the end-of-summer blues and how to deal with them.
Although I’m not a therapist, here are MY suggestions:
- Plan your fall business activities. You’ll have a competitive advantage.
- If you live in a place that empties out over the summer (like Phoenix), take advantage of the semi-empty restaurants, workout classes, and other fun activities. You don’t have to pack your calendar. Just add one or two fun things. Speaking of which…
- I’m a huge fan of the staycation, as many of my readers know. Just avoid Labor Day weekend, when costs skyrocket.
- Try something new and quirky. My calendar includes a 15-person needlepoint class. Read why “Grandma hobbies” are making a comeback. I’m playing Bunco and LRC (Left-Right-Center) next week. I won a bunch of cash last time I did it, so it will help fund #1 and #2. Each month’s games and food are themed, so I get to plan an outfit and cook/make something unique and tasty. I even bought a sewing machine because I plan to volunteer making stuff for kids this fall. Bet you didn’t know I had such a wide domestic streak! Teach yourself a new tech skill like AI prompting, Canva design (which I used to make this image), or video editing if you have a geeky streak. Some great shows are streaming now, too. I wind down by watching them while luxuriating in the AC.
- Go on a “nostalgia tour” without leaving your home. Don’t dwell on the past, but remember the great memories. I just found this piece from years ago! Organize old pix and call friends and family who may also be around and bored.
- Declutter and organize your space (home or office), so you can can “back to school” with a sense of order rather than chaos.
- Make your physical and mental health a priority. I lost 20 pounds this summer (thanks to the “miracle drugs”) and am now very focused on maintaining/building muscle, as well as getting enough nutrients. As long as I’m shooting videos in my lingerie, I need to keep my 69-year-old body in good shape and talking about wellness, not wrinkles and brain fog. (In fact, I’ve never felt better or been clearer! Thanks to #1-4, I’ve made some new friends who keep me on a positive track. Meet my new friend Theresia, whose coaching practice is focused on boundaries.
September will be here before we know it, for better or worse.
