“You’ve Got Spunk…I Hate Spunk!”

Today is Mary Tyler Moore’s 80th birthday!

Ironically, it’s my second day living in Minneapolis. I would throw my tam o’ shanter in the air, but it’s on the moving truck at the moment.

That subject line is a reference to one a line in one of my favorite groundbreaking TV shows of the ’70s. (See video clip, below) Following a break-up, Mary moved solo to Minneapolis to begin new life and career anew.

I’m not working in a newsroom, but I sort of carry a digital newsroom around in my head. You’ll hear more about my adventures in the months ahead. I already lined up my Rhoda and my Lou.

But, for today, just a big shout-out to Mary Tyler Moore and the crew of the show (which included Betty White)! It was all about a woman taking risks, re-inventing, and having spunk. Lou may have hated it but, frankly, it’s what gets me and Mary through many seasons.

She’s gonna make it after all!
