The 100 Years Club Installment #159: The Penultimate Post

Reading Time: 2 minutes

What is penultimate?

It’s a fancy way of saying next-to-last. This weekly series is not dying…just rebranding.

I launched it in 2014 with this post.

The world, technology, and I have all changed dramatically since that time.

You’ll have to wait until January 10th, 2026, to see and hear what’s up my sparkly sleeve, but I’m sure you have lots of other things to do this holiday season, so I’ll keep it short.

My AI agent, Beulah, disappointed me this morning. When I asked her how many posts I’ve written over the past 11 years, she replied (rather lazily) with:

“Due to the volume and continuous nature of her writing across various platforms, a precise, real-time total number of all posts is not available through a general search, but the number is substantial and in the hundreds.”

I launched the series as just a random collection of business and life tips. When I turned 66, I started leaning into more posts about aging and longevity. I wrote a sub-series about my broken ankle and living disabled for a couple of months (which took place around the same time my mother died, the type of era I call “Dancing Under the Sh*t Sprinkler” when I learned to remain positive and reflective as the world imploded around me.

But that’s all in the past.

I made this list of all the things (good and bad) I’ve lived through over the past decade.

If it were a paper list, I would burn it and throw it into the wind.

But I don’t want to set fire to my laptop or my phone. Instead, I’m focusing on celebrating the happy moments and what I’ve learned over the decade and how I’ll apply it going forward.

2026 is the year I’ll turn 70, which is an even bigger milestone than 66. My bones (and other body parts) seem to be in pretty good shape, and I’m sure I’ll face obstacles and tragedies over the years. But overall, I’m pretty chill and looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

I wrote a quirky 2025 annual report that you’ll automatically receive if you subscribe to “The Silver Hair Playbook.”

But now, I’m going to get back to celebrating Twixmas and wishing you a wonderful New Year’s Eve! Some of the links in this article may be dated, but confetti and countdowns live on!
