Bad Girl, Good Business

500 Dates in 10 Years (The VICE Inventory)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sorry… this article will not be as juicy as the title suggests.

I’ve known for a while that “sex sells,” but I guess I never realized that the dating adventures of a woman 50+ would be the greatest hits of my writing over the past 12 years.

How do I know that?

I just tasked Perplexity with taking an inventory of all my content related to sex, relationships, drugs (including booze), and rock and roll, and analyzing views, engagements, and subscriptions.

Yeah, I guess I can count data analysis via AI as a secret (but not particularly sexy) vice.

(Sadly, my blog from 2007 to 2014 got lost when my hosting company (Typepad) shut down, and I didn’t move quickly enough to archive my content.)

But let’s get back to the naughty bits!

  • This article (“500 Dates in 10 Years”) was very tame, but I suspect the title compelled people to subscribe.
  • In second place on my “Greatest Hits” list was “Horny, Classless, or Both?” Again, a click-baity and provocative title.
  • You don’t normally think of LinkedIn as a place for vice, but my recap of my speaking gig at a conference…what was then called the Gentleman’s Club Expo…was as popular as a lap dance. I titled it “Pole-ing Place” and wrote about the types of products and services that strip clubs need to purchase. Business, boobs, and booty seem to be a lucrative mash-up.
  • Also on my LinkedIn Greatest Hits list is “Sex Sells,” which featured an AI-generated image of me as a Wild West saloon girl, hosting dancing robots. Go figure! See below.
  • Fast-forward to August 2026. My AgeBlind podcast featuring a strip club owner, a kink consultant, and a cannabis advisor has been generating a lot of action.

On my personal brand’s Instagram and Facebook pages, the shots of me in a bikini outpull any other content related to my work, my life, my friends, and even my food and crafts. Of course I’d rather be known for my brain, heart, and humor as well as my body.

But, as any good marketer and writer knows, data doesn’t lie (usually…check your AI data!)  And you have to give the people what they want.

P.S. One of my favorite parts of this “exercise” was Perplexity’s editorial commentary: “Nancy spent years observing how desire, aging, money, technology, and power collide, first as a business writer, then as a dater, and now as a human living among bots.”

P.P.S. Next week, I’ll return to my usual “historical” format, but this seemed to be a good end-of-summer diversion.

P.P.P.S. Do you need help with analyzing YOUR content or other programs? I’m still a brand marketing consultant!
