The 100 Years Club Installment #122: Deep-Cleaning My Life

Here I sit, on a flight back east to see my friends, kids, and one of my favorite bands.
I’m grateful to have wi-fi and have put a huge dent in my April work, so I can just chill for a bit.
Long flights are a great time to reflect on where you’ve been, where you’re going, and what “dust bunnies” you need to clear from your head, life, and social/work circle.
This 2016 post still holds true. Your bunnies may have changed, but the process of dusting should be a lifelong habit.
Why a deep-clean rather than a superficial dusting?
When I find myself getting cranky, bored, or a bit depressed, I take a step back and think about the activities and people in my business and life that are making me feel itchy, sneezy, or coughy (metaphorically as well as IRL).
This year’s “Springolutions” (see the 2016 post) are as follows.
I will:
- No longer attend huge, random networking events and stick to smaller curated gatherings where we have a common interest or purpose. That said, I will continue to engage in one business/social gathering each week (which also gives me a reason to get out of my gym clothes on occasion.)
- Stop saying “Yes” to projects, people and invitations that don’t make me smarter, richer, or happier.
- Surround myself with positive and inspirational people and avoid naysayers.
- Stay the course on my own business goals and only take advice from successful people.
- Eat clean and don’t let life, travel (and detractors — see #3) steer me off course.
- Take risks, like my OnlyFans April Fools Prank, which generated thousands of views and tons of comments (but thankfully no trolls)
- Change up my environment (like this current three-week trip, some cool work/play trips in June, and my apartment move this summer). Focus spending on those things that will truly enrich my life.
- Continue to build my AI and other tech skills, so I can remain relevant and employed for years to come. I attended Canva Create and expanded my digital graphic abilities. (And, as a balance to that, read books and do crafts and cook.)
- Play big. By that I mean that know my worth, do things that boost my health and confidence, and seek out quality rather than quantity in all things.
- Make plans for the months ahead, knowing that the unexpected can happen, so I must be prepared to rewind and reboot, if necessary.
But enough about me!
Bonus #11 (which is an ongoing goal of mine) is to inspire others to not fear aging, take risks, and live their own badass lives (at any age).
So, think about your own “spring cleaning 10” and do the work to be the best version of yourself — despite the wild and weird things going on around us these days.
What else can you do?
- Listen to my podcasts for eye-opening tales from a wide range of fun experts. This month so far, we covered: BDSM and kindness at work. I also “guested” on this new show, talking about my life, the $8T opportunity, and longevity. Interested in being a guest? We have a couple of summer spots left and are booking now for the fall.
- Check out my books. (I have two new ones about dating) and follow me at NANCYAF.com (My IG is nancyaf_)
- Get in touch with me if you need help getting out of a rut or want to know more about how to build your own personal brand, come up to speed on tech, make a career move, amp up your social media activity, write a book, or start a podcast.
Only YOU can do your spring cleaning, but I’ll happily provide the power washer.
I like your 10 spring to-dos. They can, for the most part, be generously applied to any situations.
