The 100 Years Club Installment #150: Nancy’s Tales from the Crypt & Why I Love a Hot Vampire
Reading Time: 3 minutesVampires & zombies. Oh my!
People who live forever and those who rise from the dead are popular this time of year.
The first vampire horror film dates back to 1922. (Tune into my podcast on 10/28 when I talk with a
horror movie producer about our fave scary movies!)
Some products, marketing campaigns, and behaviors should be dead and buried.
But others should continuously have new life breathed into them so they can “walk the earth” for as long as possible.
Is there such a thing as a good vampire or zombie? Perhaps.
After all, we have a good witch. And Wicked merch has proven to be super-lucrative. (The original Wizard of Oz debuted in 1939. Bringing things “back from the dead” can be super-profitable.)
So, what’s the point here?
We need to stop associating “old” people/things with fear, dying, and death.
I was recently at an event where I referred to someone as “The Mick Jagger of tech.” His immediate comment was “Ewwww…I’m not an old man.”
Dude…he has a net worth of $500M, fills stadiums when he performs, and has fathered eight kids.
This is the perfect time of year for me to be speaking out about ageism…hopefully in an entertaining way.
We’ve banished blackface and ethnic stereotypes, yet retailers sell this offensive mask called “Grandma.” Watch below! When I posted this video, a (young) person trolled me by basically telling me to get a sense of humor. That’s pretty ironic. I’m one of the wittiest women I know. We’ll see how they like it when they’re my age!
“Hot vampires” share these five traits and behaviors:
- We’re all about energy level rather than the dates on our birth certificates
- Having lived through many technology and financial eras, we tend to be resilient and quick to adapt.
- Our lifelines include people younger and different from us, and we “feed” on their ideas and energy. No blood-sucking involved.
- Although we don’t tuck into coffins, sleep is critical to our mental well-being, along with a wide range of techniques like clean eating, exercise, social interaction, sex, and travel.
- We still rock unique fashion styles. No, not a black cape. But I love a good blood-red lip, black eyeliner, red lingerie, and fishnets.
But…
Don’t let those “energy vampires” into your home or office!
They suck your strength and distract you from living your best life.
Listen to this podcast and then grab that garlic and sharp stake!
P.S. As for zombies, we people 50+ know that “coming back from the dead” can mean many things…overcoming health and family challenges, recovering from failed business ventures, or simply remaking our bodies after weight gain and trauma. Some brands lie dormant for years and then make a strong comeback. I’m all-in on good zombies, too!
