The 100 Years Club Installment #119: Potential Unsafe Content Detected

My marketing theme for April is Spring Cleaning.
By that, I mean taking a metaphorical broom (or Scrub Daddy or Roomba, if you prefer) to all aspects of your work, life, and physical health.
Of course, this also led me to consider the terms “clean” and “dirty” and how we define them.
This week, I encountered a weird situation with artificial intelligence. AI is, apparently, incel (i.e., involuntarily celebrate) and refuses to acknowledge penises and vaginas as legitimate body parts.
I attempted to generate an image for a post using a well-known photo library, prompting the AI with legitimate physiology terms and slang.
This message popped up, accompanied by a cute puppy image.
“Potential Unsafe Content Detected
Oops! It looks like your prompt may contain themes that we don’t feel comfortable generating images for. We’re committed to fostering creativity while keeping AI safe to use for everyone. To proceed, please adjust your prompt and try again.”
I suppose that the company doesn’t want us using AI to generate porn. I respect that. But if I were a sex ed teacher or gynecology or urology medical student, attempting to create a graphic, I’d be bummed.
So, I tried a different AI. This is a compilation of what it created:
I was especially amused by the fruit and vegetable imagery.
When I searched “kidney,” “heart,” “liver,” and other body parts, I got more anatomically correct and varied imagery, not the grocery store’s produce section and bizarre medieval pix.
So, what should we learn from this exercise (plus a little AI-powered Google research)?
- We are still living in a world where accurate depictions of sex organs are considered potentially “unsafe.”
- Interest in sex is on the decline (which has nothing to do with AI and my search, but is an interesting trend).
- AI is expected to change human intimacy’s face (and perhaps other parts).
- Just as we do with humans, we need to teach AI the difference between “good touch” and “bad touch.” When a legitimate writer is looking for pictures of body parts, they shouldn’t be compelled to use fruits and vegetables instead.
