Bad Girl, Good Business

The 100 Years Club Installment #88: My “Back-to-School” Sked and 7 Classes

Reading Time: 3 minutes

We often consider the summer to be over after Labor Day weekend.

Kids have returned to school and will (at least in theory) spend the next nine months getting smarter and more mature.

After an amazing “Hot Woman Summer,” during which my mantras were “Why the hell not?” and “You do you,” I am heading into my own back-to-school season. (The last “chapter” of my 6-part summer summary is below.)

The fall is a great time to take stock of what we know and what we still want to learn and do (especially as we age and potentially have unlimited options).

My classy class line-up for the Fall 2024 back-to-school season  is as follows:

  1. Back-to-school vibe (all that personal branding, influencer, and awareness-building “stuff”):
    • New branding (launching October 9th)
    • Monetization plan for that new brand (in process)
    • Funky custom Converse sneakers and a new hairstyle
    • New headshots with FemForce. (Use code NANCYS04 if you sign up!)
  2. Homeroom: Figuring out where to live when my lease expires
    • Continue to rent in AZ?
    • Buy in AZ?
    • Move to Maryland?
    • Put all my stuff in storage and hit the road for a while?
  3. STEM: Improve my AI, digital video, and podcasting skills
  4. English: Write, write, write, and continue to push myself to shoot selfie videos (yuck)
  5. Student government: Campaign volunteering
  6. Gym: Get into great shape before my next birthday (69 in February). Find a new trainer, resume Pilates, and perhaps join a group class
  7. Electives:
    • Volunteering for SOS, U of M Alumni Club, and YPIE
    • Live music and possibly resuming drum lessons
    • Movies (the big screen is one of my passions)
    • Reading
    • Knitting
    • Field trips (travel). I’m registered for Blueprint in September and am super excited! It combines three of my loves — real estate, technology, and hospitality!

Although I would like to include “find a prom date” on the list, I am leaving that to the universe and don’t plan on spending much time swiping because I have too much “schoolwork” to do now. That said, I will continue to keep an open mind and heart and spend time with friends — both men and women.

How Can YOU Prep for the School Year?

  1. Set specific and achievable goals. Use the categories above or make up your own.
  2. Stay positive, even if you get a failing grade in a class. Either drop the class or hunker down and study.
  3. Think about your “classmates” and who you really want to hang out with in the cafeteria of life. Talk to the “new kids” and attempt to learn about them.
  4. Balance work (required courses) and electives (things that enrich your life)
  5. Sign up for actual classes and fieldwork — either academic or just for fun.
  6. Start planning for your winter break (the holiday season). Work seems less stressful and daunting when you have something fun to look forward to.
  7. Remember that you’re never too cool (or too old) for school.

What are YOU doing this semester? I’d love to hear from you! Please feel free to comment.
