Bad Girl, Good Business

Are you Fit? Do Things Fit? How Do You Fit In?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Or, are you simply fit to be tied?

The word “fit” is just so cool. It’s only three letters but it’s pretty damned versatile.

My January theme for business musings is always “survival of the fittest,” but that simple phase has taken on new meaning since it was coined in 1864. According to Wikipedia (the source of all truths), “‘fit’ generally now refers to ‘most well adapted to the current environment.'”

We’re living in a world where technology has changed everything. Economic zingers (like the medicine ball hurled at ones head) have also left people feeling lost and lean (and not in a good way). So many of my peers are feeling mentally and physically sluggish — unfit for today’s weird and unpredictable new world.

So, how to you “refit” yourself? How do you learn to adapt to the current environment? It’s all about inspecting your personal evolutionary goals (thanks Mr. Darwin!) and figuring out what type of brain, body, colleagues, friends, and habits will fit you best in 2015 and the years ahead.

I have been cleaning out my closets and office lately. Just as I dispose of pants that are out-of-style or too loose, tight, or short and trash those pens that ran out of ink, we all need to recycle or dump those parts of our life that are ill-fitting.

After all, who wants to be a misfit?

BGGB_Pointer I wear a Fitbit all the time these days, to track my exercise and sleep patterns. (I love their new TV spot! But be warned…you won’t be able to get the little fit ditty out of your head.) And here’s a great article about David Sedaris and his Fitbit adventure
