Bad Girl, Good Business

Cleaning the Crime Scene

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We all have places that are spattered with “blood”

This month’s theme for my business has been “spring cleaning,” and what better way to end the month than to write about the ultimate cleaning job — removing toxic waste from those places in our lives that are the scenes of moments we’d rather forget. For example:

  • Places of business where our jobs totally sucked
  • Restaurants and bars where we were dumped by people we cared about
  • Restaurants and bars and hotels and houses and offices that were the scenes of romantic or pleasant moments with people who are no longer in our lives — because they died, dumped us, or otherwise vanished

Returning to the scene of the crime is the only way we can truly move on, grow up, and create new and pleasant memories. Of course, avoidance can be an effective tactic too, but sometimes it’s physically impossible.

Not to get all feng shui on ya, but here are some ways to de-tox crime scenes — those “haunted” places listed above:

  • If you’re still actually IN the place (as in a home or office) rearrange the furniture, buy some new accessories, and burn a scented candle to create a new atmosphere. (If you’re a dude, you can just spray some manly Fabreze or Axe)
  • Visit the crime scene restaurant/bar/hotel with someone you really like and resist the urge to talk about the bad memories
  • Don’t focus on the place you’re in — but think more about how you have transformed and grown since you were last there
  • Distract yourself from the physical world by re-doing or updating your social media profiles and cleaning up your faux friends. Like cleaning a real home or office, cleansing ones digital brand can be uplifting
  • If all else fails, leave the state or even the country and start a new life. (We don’t recommend doing this often…it can get very expensive and disruptive).
